The MDCC has been considering issues of peace, and for the past year has held monthly Peace Standouts in the center of the city. This fall they will present a city-wide Peace Forum at the Public Library on September 17. Local Marlborough singer songwriter and guitarist Paul Goldman will lead peace songs starting at 6:00 PM. He is a member of the People’s Music Network – Home that has the mission to use song as a catalyst for a free, just, and peaceful world.
The speakers’ panel will begin at 6:30 PM, and the primary speaker on Promoting Peace in an Age of Polarization is Joshua R. Snyder, Ph.D., Associate Professor of the Practice; Director of the Faith, Peace, & Justice Minor; Theology Department Boston College. Dr. Snyder studied the peace process in Guatemala, and his dissertation was on social reconciliation in a divided society. He has written on peacebuilding as a response to the Ukrainian crisis, and his work emphasizes ethics, forgiveness, and justice.
He will be accompanied by a Boston College student who will explore how to engage younger people in peace activism.
State Representative Jamie Eldridge will speak on peace initiatives through state government.
Thus meeting is a recognition that we have a responsibility for assuring a more peaceful world for our children and for all around the world.
Churches, faith groups, peace activists, and the public are invited to attend as our community struggles with ways to make an impact when wars are flaring in Ukraine/Russia, Israel/mid -East, Myanmar, Somalia, and Congo and while other insurgencies erupt around the world. The result on civilians with subsequent medical and food needs, and with migration and statelessness ultimately effects all of us.
